Preschool Fun!!

Why is it that preschool seems SO fun at my age but not for a 3 year old?  It would seem, for 3 and 4 year olds, that it is the SCARIEST place on earth!  This is James' second day of preschool and the second day that I left a screaming crying child in the arms of a sweet preschool teacher.  Of course, when I picked him up (after the 1st day) he was happily enjoying himself and talked about how much fun preschool was!  Then something must have happened between Monday night and Wednesday morning, because all morning he whined and complained about going to preschool, saying such things as "I hate learning" or "I just want to stay home with you, mommy" or better yet "I need to take a nap!"  Meanwhile, I am thinking..."I am paying $90 a month for this amazing preschool experience so you are going whether you like it or not!"  I am trying to only talk about the great wonderful things of preschool AND on preschool days we have had great breakfasts (to try to make it fun to get ready for school).  I know it is only the second day - so it has to get better right?  To make matters worse...my child seems to be the ONLY one with the crying screaming issue!  All the other kids' mothers leave without their children freaking out.  And not to think to highly of my child, but I would think James would be the last person to have an issue with mom leaving, since I still work and have left and still leave James with babysitters all the time!  I am thinking it might have something to do with the addition that just entered our lives.  He really hasn't shown any jealousy or resentment for baby Scott, but I think maybe he has gotten a little more clingy (maybe a lot more clingy!).  I guess to all the experienced moms with crying issues in regards to preschool...Is there anything else I can do?

1st day of school - I think at this point, he really liked the idea of it!

My two IDENTICAL boys...

After finally meeting Scott, the first thing we said was "he looks exactly like James!"

Here is some PROOF...

The Hospital Visitors...

Everyone came to visit...my mom and Jessica were the first to arrive - only 30 minutes after delivery!  Then came Grandma Ballard and James.  Then my dad.  Around 5:30 pm Tyler's mom and dad came and got to see him being bathed in the nursery!  Chelsey and Kevin were the last visitors of the day!  Sorry to say...I was a little tired and didn't get pictures of everyone with Scott.  Sorry!  But thank you everyone for coming.  We loved seeing you!

James and Scott - sorry lighting is really bad - it is from my phone...
I had to include that one because it shows how NERVOUS James was to hold Scott!
He soon got over it!

New Arrival - Baby Scott

Daddy and Baby Scott (taken minutes after delivery!)
So I finally went into labor....it was inevitable! Anyway, Tuesday night I started feel contractions every 10 mins. After an hour of this, I told Tyler that maybe we should call Grandma B and just give her the heads up - you know in case we had to call her at like 3 in the morning. While on the phone, we decided these contractions were a little different than the ones I had felt before I decided to have grandma come over then and we would camp out at her place. After the house swap, Tyler went to bed and I tried to relax, but really was so excited it was finally here. I wanted to time every contractions and record it. At around 3 am...they switch to about every 7 to 8 mins. Yay...they were progressing! But I was TIRED! So I decided to lie down and kinda feel asleep until about 5 am. Tyler got up at 5:30 and we discovered the contractions kinda stopped! I was so bummed...all that work! We decided to both go to the gym (since Grandma had James) - THAT got the contractions going again! I was walking around the track (really really slowly....especially during a contraction). Old ladies were even passing me, giving me some weird looks...but who cares, walking kept the contractions strong...and I wanted this baby!! At 7 am we decided to run back home shower and get a few more things. Tyler had decided not to go to Logan and go to my doctor's appointment (which was scheduled that morning at 9:20). All the way to the doctor's office (which was downtown...right next to the hospital) I felt the contractions...we timed them and they were almost consistantly 5mintues apart! YAY - progess! I wanted to do this birth naturally and had read a Bradley Method book about how to deal with the contractions and labor. He was really into trying to relax your whole body and breathe abdominally during the contraction. This really helped me. I had decided before that I would NOT become overly dramatic and just take each contraction one at a time. I just had to get through one 60 seconds at a time. This so far was working really well! At the doctor's office...I don't think that they thought I was in actual labor because of how relaxed I was. The doc checked me and I was dilated to a 4 and noticed that I was having a contraction every 3 mins. He told me that they needed to be stronger and to go get some breakfast before heading to the hospital. Well after we left, we just decided that he might not have realized how strong the contractions were and that we should just head over then. We checked in at 10:30. The nurse was hooking me up to the monitors and asking me a lot of questions. They knew from the doctor that I was already 4 cm, so they didn't check me again. By the time they took off the monitors so I could "walk around," it was already 11:30. They said that they would have to monitor check me again in an hour. After they left, I got up, moved around during some, but really I just wanted to sit on the edge of the bed and have Tyler push into back as hard as he could, while I tried to totally relax. At 12:30, I was experiencing a different type of contraction and all I wanted to do was push! Tyler and I both were against this feeling, because 1) I just was admitted like 2 hours ago. 2) My water hadn't broken. 3) The doctors thought I really wasn't in active labor much less transition, or pushing. Two contractions later of this extreme pain and trying to resist the feeling of pushing, the nurse came in. I asked to be checked and that I felt like pushing. She looked at me very skeptically but said "let's check." After checking, she started freaking out, trying to call the doctor to get him to the hospital. I asked to push, she said "NO" and that we were waiting for the doctor. YEAH RIGHT!! 2 contractions later, after she had tried to get another doctor, she opened the door and grabbed the closest nurse and finally said that I could push! Tyler and these two nurses had just decided to go ahead without the doctor!! To spare everyone the gross details...He started crowning, then the water broke (all over Tyler - and he wasn't even in scrubs - no time!), and then he was out! Pushing was the most extreme pain that I had ever experienced - but so worth it. They laid the baby on me, and Tyler and I just looked at each other in awe! We did it...naturally. He was born, Wednesday August 18, 2010 at 12:58 pm weighing 9 lbs. 4 oz.

Early Labor or just Braxton Hicks??

I am now 4 days from my estimated due date and have been feeling consistent sensations of tightening. They definitely do not hurt or even make me stop what I am doing....so I am thinking this could not be the real thing. I don't really remember last time (with James) because I was induced and was in the hospital bed the entire time. I don't think the contractions are getting stronger even though I decided to go take an hour walk this afternoon. Right now I just feel annoyed. I feel like, "lets either do this thing, or lets not - don't keep me guessing and wondering if I should call Grandma - the babysitter, or if I will be spending the night at the hospital and need to get my things together." I guess the real reason why I just feel annoyed is because this same kinda thing happened on Wednesday. After a couple of hours of these easy contractions, I thought we should pack our bag and get the house ready for any visitors. Well, as you can guess, NOTHING came of it, except now I have a relatively clean house and my bags packed. For some reason I was thinking that once labor finally started, it got really hard and stayed that way for a really long time - NOT this back and forth guessing game. I also think it throws Tyler through a loop too, not knowing what to do or how to help me. Why can't there be a little alarm clock or a "dinger" telling me that my baby is done "cooking in the oven" and that we would be up all night, so go get some rest, drop James off, and get ready for the big event! Alas this is not the case, and the only remedy is to just wait and anticipate! Everyone says, "Oh you will know when you are in labor and you will not be guessing" - so I guess if I am guessing, I am obviously NOT in real labor. Oh well...preggo for another day!

14 days and counting...

As of today, I have exactly 2 weeks until I get to my ESTIMATED due date! I wonder if this baby knows that. It is funny that we put so much attention and energy into this one due date. AND if he doesn't come right then, we get stressed and worried! I say this, because I know this will happen to me. James was 10 days early because I was induced. I never felt any contractions or even Braxton Hicks, so I am very new to these feelings. I think I have felt maybe ONE contraction, but maybe not...it could have been a Braxton Hicks. Before I went to the doctor, I was in the mindset that since I really haven't felt anything, and I really am not THAT large...maybe I am not really due until September. After the appointment, when he checked to see if things were moving along and I was 1 1/2 cm dilated, all of a sudden I can't stop thinking about if this baby will come sometime soon. This is not a very good thing (especially for me) - I am definitely not a patient person and want to get things done and over with. Now I find myself really counting down the days to this "alleged" due date. With every ache and pain immediately thinking...oh is this something!
But really when I stop and think...really do I want this baby right now? I have a Ward Camp Out and Chelsey's Shower this weekend, and then I am going to a friends show on Tuesday night of next week. So really I DON'T want to go into labor until Wednesday of next week....of which point I will be one day shy of 39 weeks. So, a note to Baby Scott..."it might seem I want you right now, but really don't come until next week! If of course you wait too long, I WILL start hating life, but for now, sit tight!"
